We have met the enemy and he is us

 Success
Back to Full Blog

A 50th Anniversary is a cause for a lot of analysis. What did the 50 years accomplish? Of course, just as life itself is reason enough for life, marriage itself is reason enough for marriage, family itself is reason enough for family.

Back in January, made a post about success. A few successes in 72 years. A lot of mediocrity. A bunch of nonsuccesses (failure is a traumatic word).

A week or so ago, our kids gave us an anniversary dinner at Indigo in Alexandria. Right on the Potomac near Reagan airport. It was too much fun and a truly memorable time. Here is a picture of us and our babies.

And one including the wives, husbands, grandchildren (one is missing, just starting classes at Tech)

We all have to pick our measures of success. Probably a lot of rationalization goes into it. But those children and grandchildren make a really good measure. God's in His Heaven and all is right with the world.

You have a very handsome family. I know you must be proud of them. Getting together with family can be so much fun.

Children are a treasure, as are grandchildren.

And yours look especially happy, healthy and down right good looking?

Are you sure they're yours?

From the pictures I can see that you have been most successful as that family indicates....nothing else really matters in this life......

Thanks, Whit. They are a fun bunch to be with. All have a good sense of humor. And that was a really fun evening.

And intelligent, Anexplorer. That is the clincher. Either aliens or evolution.

When I look at my retirement fund and our budget, TAB, must rationalize that family, not money is my measure of success.

Thanks, Lou. And they are really a good bunch. The beauty is a lot more than just skin deep.

Really are proud of them, Cap'n. Watching my retirement fund drift away certainly shows that making money and finances are not one of my few successes.
