Thanks to “On This Day in History” widget on my iGoogle home page (recommend iGoogle), found that on this date in 1922, Kay Starr was born. It was truly during my junior high and high school days that Kay Starr was popular. And it looks as if she was still performing in 1999.
Anyway, here is to Miss Kay Starr. Back when music was good and high school was fun.
There was one of Kay singing this on Wayne Newton's show but this is better:
This is a classic:
Hard to find videos. Here is a 1949 one:
Here is one from 1954. The year I graduated from Lewisburg Joint High School. Great close dancing music:

SINANN: HELLO. GREAT subject/thread/post!! .... I remember also listening to my dad's old 78 and 45 rpm vinyl records of Frankie Laine singing RAWHIDE song.
And don't forget the white bucks, Hawk. I was one of the nerds who kept mine clean and white. Those guys on the other side of Market Street made certain theirs were dirty. No one had blue suede, however.

Frankie Laine! Need to do a post on him sometime, Pop
Isn't it interesting how we remember the good stuff. Somehow a lot of the painful stuff has drifted into blocked areas. Probably still stirring up dust back there. Maybe that is why I always ....

Remember all of them so well, Whit, when I got the hint from the birthday widget. And then reading about her life and seeing the videos. Interesting.
I think the ones I remember the best are Bonaparte's Retreat and Rock and Roll Waltz. Liked to do Bonaparte on my clarinet and tried to picture my Mom and Dad waltzing to rock and roll.

When Carl Perkins " Blue Suede Shoes" came out Jan, 1st. 1956. every guy in Seattle went down and bought a pair of Blue Suede's. The record was selling 20,000 copies a day and the Blue suede shoes were selling faster.. and to keep the shoes in top shape you had to dust them and brush them and keep your girl from stepping on them.

Don't know if Dad would have gone along with the blue suede shoes, Hawk. Probably would have told me that if I wanted them, I could use my own money. That put an end to it. Did have clean white bucks. Protected them carefully.

My favorite was "Side by Side."
Oh we ain't got a barrel of money
Maybe we're ragged and funny
But we'll travel along singin' our song
Side by side
Don't know what's comin' tomorrow
Maybe it's trouble and sorrow
But we'll travel the road sharin' our load
Side by side
Through all kinds of weather
What if the sky should fall?
Just so long as we're together
It doesn't matter at all
When they've all had their quarrels and parted
We'll be the same as we started
Just travlin' along singin' our song
Side by side
