 Decisions, decisions
Back to Full Blog

So, the major candidates are decided. McCain and Obama. There are a lot of emotional issues. They are important. But, let's face it, this needs a cool, cerebral, scientific decision based on the isses. Sure. Anyway, here is my list as of June 8th. Based on at least an hour of deep research. Went to johnmccain.com and barackobama.com. (First impression, had to get past a donation ad on Obama's before I could find the issues). The list below needs continued work, however. Difficult to distill complex issues to a one word description. Will take months of cogitation, can tell. Have not analyzed today's comments on how Bush has screwed up the economy. “wait” means we have five more months. Selected some issues that tickle my fancy. Please contribute your cool, cerebral, scientific assistance.

Please excuse the crude efforts to line up the columns. *&^%$# blogstream editor would not take the tabs from my word processor.

-------------------McCain----------Obama---------Choice

The Iraq War----stay------------leave---------wait

Defense---------increase--------decrease------McCain

2nd Amendment---pro gun---------anti gun------Obama

It is still too early to decide for me. I want to see what the effect is on our nation of several more months of gas at $5-6 a gallon. I'll probably start doing what you are presently doing about four months from now.

Good point, Ron. Will add that one to my list. Need to do some research into a complicated issue before I decide which way I want to go with it. Which way do you like? Why? I am thinking of taking "economy" and dividing it up. NAFTA, and international economy, is certainly critical. And all those things that smush the dollar and cause us so much grief.

Certainly can. Your interest certifies the "Intelligent" part. Plus having a neatsy cool blog. Will take the "Goodlookin'" on trust. Most of the folks will likely be a little long in the tooth. You can be the token teenie bopper.

Not really pro or anti gun. Anyone who commits a crime ought to have his parts removed by a 12 guage. It is the gun lobby that really bothers me, however. Ditto for AARP, the long-in-the-tooth (note all of the hyphens) lobby.

Plan to keep it up as time goes by, Whit. And probably repost every so often. And the economy seems to be increasingly significant. I think that in comparison with the economy, Iraq is a piece of cake. Too many causes - Iraq, corruption, capitalism - and if either of them can come up with a good plan, he is a genius.

Did not put them in order, Ill. If I did, would probably put the economy at the top. The most serious and the most difficult. Climate is right up there just below that with several others. I think climate has a simple but really difficult solution - big business and governmental corruption

In terms of time needed to make a decision, glad there is lots of time for the dust to settle. But it is more time for the ads to annoy us, too.

What changes would you make in it, Hawk?

Great post!
Candidate Senate records are revealing, too, as you no doubt know.
That research could take all summer; still, it's a clear record of performance.

It is a good thing, Curious, that I do not have anything else to do all summer and fall. The BW tells me I spend too much time in front of this thing anyway. Not doing my todo list. Guess I will have to rely on George Stephanopolis and the web compilations. Tell you what, you look over those records and let us know how they fit into my listing. Being part of The League has its responsibilities. You can be the Curious Member In Charge Of Reviewing Congressional Records And Compiling The List - CMICORCRACTL.

I have adopted a wait and see approach. Just hope I'll be able to see through all the mud that is sure to fly.

It will be interesting,, Lobo Solitario. Whether the dust will settle enough to see the truth is still questionable. These are politicians (masters of deception), after all.
