We have met the enemy and he is us

 Obama and Wright
Back to Full Blog

Why is it that I keep rolling off these pearls of wisdom and the news anchors and politicians do not listen to me? Well, at least one of the talking heads did. There was a quote on the Sunday morning show "Rev. Wright is for Rev. Wright." The purpose of a preacher and of the church is to increase its congregation and therefore its income and power. Where did we ever get the idea that Rev. Wright was giving us God's honest truth? He is an actor, for God's sake! Well, not for God's sake, for his own sake. He gives a self serving sermon and gets applause and money. We have met the enemy.... Well, I am not part of that group but a bunch of people are.

Do not hold Obama to blame for the assinine comments of a toady like Rev. Wright. The motivations for Obama for the moment seem good and above this stuff. Wright is a thorn for him. But wait, this is a politician we are talking about here. Why do I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall. And fall on my head.

SINANN: HELLO. You, too? I also watch ALL the t.v. political shows (against my doctor's advice) and want to YELL at my t.v. screen DOZENS of times a day.

What IS the 'qualification' to become a T.V. HOST or 'news'? reporter these days, my friend?

Methinks ALL such above should HAVE to go on the t.v. show, "ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER".

ONLY those who WIN said show, should be allowed to be ON t.v.! .... Just MY simpleton thoughts. WINK.

On a more 'serious' note ....

As I watch the '3' remaining standing prez' candidates, I am once again becoming less and less enthralled with ANY ONE of them.

I am INDEPENDENTLY hoping against all rational hope, that a BLOOMBERG-esque/type candidate will step into the RING.

Someone who is SMART, has RUN a BIG OPERATION (BUSINESS AND CITY), who has BILLIONS of bucks (Can't be BOUGHT) and won't CARE what OTHERS think of him cuz' he's set for LIFE.

I've seen who Senator Obama is alleged to have 'hung around' with.

I've seen the 'laundry' list of Senator Clinton's FINANCIAL ADVISORS & BACKERS.

I've seen the WHO's WHO names on Senator McCain's high staff folks that either WERE or STILL ARE ''CORPORATE LOBBYISTS".

Go figure, huh .... ~SIGH~

REPEAT after GRUMPY, old TallPockets ---

''ELECT TALLPOCKETS -- HE DOES 'NOT' WANT THE JOB!"

SMILE, my friend. My BEST to you and yours,

TallPockets

Back in the early 70's I took my Colorado wife to visit NYC. My father who worked in Manhattan had a business acquaintance who officed 3/4 the way up the Empire State Building. My wife and I alone took one of the regular elevators (not the tourist elevator) to his floor. Standing in the elevator, as dapper as you could imagine stood a black man. He put his hand out to me, smiled and introduced himself as James Meredith. I was stunned to meet him under those circumstances. I wonder now if I am disqualified from running for President? and I wonder how many hoopleheads would NOT vote for me SOLELY because I once had an acquaintance with such an evil man.

As for me, I have every reason to trust Obama. I see the Republican party hurling trash at him now because they would much rather see Hillary chosen. I have never voted Democrat for President, being a good conservative walking in my daddy's footsteps. I am sick and tired of the failing of the status quo both republican and democrat.

For Gecko this will be a first time. I will be voting for Obama should a certain senator not pick his pocket with political games.

sinann :

The corporate interests would be happy with either McCain or Hillary. They both favor big business interests. The Far Right Christians prefer McCain because, in addition to promoting corporate interests, he would also promote their interests. Both groups fear Obama.

Sinnan:

Isn't it interesting that the organizer of the event is a staunch Hillary supporter. The Rev sang just like they knew he would, his tune of division...he and Sharpton are of the same mold but in Obama I believe we truely have a young accomolished man with a message of inclusion...Lets hope we continue to see the tree rather than the forest! Good post. Pop'

Thanks, Pop. I really hope Obama is a big step toward better and more honest government. There is still a bunch of old time party politicians in Congress, however. And the Hillary Democratic hunter-killer machine aiming toward the next election. And another and, Obama is a politician after all.

Certainly do, Ron. Thought when George and Charlie zeroed in on superficial stuff, that if they had asked the real issue questions, would they have gotten any meaningful answers? Dance a little two-step. Promises just meant to be broken. Certainly Hillary would have been a good politician and avoided any committment. How about Obama? Am I just being cynical?

My Dad was a loyal Republican, also, Gecko. Refuse to label myself anything except myself, not a loyal part of any political tribe.

Politics is politics. Bill said something about it being a contact sport like football. But they do have rules. Even in UFC, you can not shoot the other guy or stuff a grenade down his shorts. And "win at any cost" politicians try to get away wth anything they can.

Do hope Obama is what he says and will survive a term with Congress and Hillary doing all they can to cut him off at the knees.

Still reserving the right to select between McCain and Obama, Whit. If I had to do it today, Obama would be a definite. For the very reasons you say. Both seem to be above the filth. And some good and bad points for both.

As I just mentioned in another comment, Gecko, reserving my choice for the moment. But the meter seems to be creeping away from the M and toward the O.

A politician who can not be bought, Pockets? Heavens to murgatroid, what is that?

Spin is everything. In science experiments, the observer needs to be unbiased and analyze every bit of data. A lot needs to be thrown away and the remainder carefully considered. Politics is the same. The news and talking heads give us a bunch of crap designed only to improve their ratings. Most of the "news" just needs to get tossed.

So that's how "murgatroid" is spelt. I always wondered

Wait a minute, that's how politicians segue off the issues into meaningless drivel!

sinann - While Obama's smooth rhetoric can be convincing, the choices he has made are more revealing. He chose to follow Wright's sermons, and he chose to ask Wright's guidance - for 20 years.

Thanks, Pockets. Visiting daughters and friends in The Big City. Some of the places have dial-up and there is are lots of interruptions in my set-in-my-ways habits. Lots going on. Need to make a new blog entry about all of it.

True, Curious. There are a lot of times I wonder when the true Obama is going to emerge from the campaign coccoon. Maybe he is just what he seems but afraid I have become jaded. And what should we reasonably expect from a career politician in a race for this political plum?

And speaking of politics, would bet that being in that church was a political move back in Obama's Chicago days.
