The news is full of the polygamy in Eldorado, Texas. Some thoughts.
Do not want a bunch of women catering to my wishes and demands. One real woman is enough for me to handle. More than enough.
It is good to have one whose strengths and weaknesses compliment. One who is sane in the areas where I am weird. And will tell me in the very few instances I am weird. Need that, am afraid. If those folks want to work it with more than one wife, more power to them.
The problem with FLDS, to me, is not the polygamy but the abuse. Physical and sexual, but emotional as well. Those guys are wimps, wooses. A real woman would make mincemeat out of them. They are not up to a real relationship. And the women are a bunch of robots. That blank druggie sort of look. No personality, no brains, no hope, no aspirations. Not talking about getting into the business world, women who choose to take care of a home and family are great. Talking about facing up to the everyday joys and challenges, give and take of life. Those FLDS guys manufacture blank baby machines who will never challenge. And, of course, never give a real and joyful relationship. Blowups would be almost as good.
It would be fine with me if the government kept its hands out of the polygamy problem. But they need to really work on religious extremists and abuse of all sorts.

It is one of those situations, Ron, which is just wrong and seems to be getting wronger. Taking the children is not the right thing. But cults like this should not be condoned. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out and what will be the results in a decade or so.

Wilt Chamberlain once said that he had had sex with over 20,000 women in his lifetime. Do I envy him? No! I doubt he even had time to get to know their names much less remember them.
Thanks, Whit. Sex like that is what animals do. I like "making love". There is a world of difference. Wilt can do the sex thing. I like the making love thing.

Si, good post. I have mixed feelings about all of this. I almost think that the government didn't have a right to swoop down and take ALL the children unless they could prove abuse. I don't think that it will make thses folks trust "us" very much. It's just sad all around. Take care.

Agree, ValAnne. The cure is worse than the disease. Think they should prosecute the FLDS folks for idiocy or terminal whimpiness. And the kids should grow up without the education they are getting at the YFZ Ranch. But tearing them out of their homes is not right, either.
You know, TAB, that thought crossed my mind when I was writing this post. I wondered if Jeffs and his "saints" would prove their idiocy and show us all with a stunt like that. That would show us for messing with their children.

Great minds, Explorer. Why can't everyone be as brilliant as we are? Like those FLDS folks. And a lot of other religious idiocy. Next thing you know people will start thinking that critters from outer space have existed for trillions of years and are interferring with terrestrial events. But wait, the Scientology religion already believes that.

437 children separated from their mother and being sent to foster homes and the mothers being sent back to the compound....The Child protection services of Texas must have their heads up their perverbal ass !!! Why would you not take the children and their mother and relocate them back into a real world/town society...???? seems that would be better than what the backwater gunslinging gunfight at the not OK corral are doing???
It is a difficult problem, TAB. Kids ought to grow up with their own brains in action. But they "threw out the baby with the bath water." When they get the lawyers involved, everything goes to hell in a handbasket. How is that for mixing my sempahores?
